About me
Hi! I'm Zina. Married to the best husband in the world since 1996. We have one adult son. Sewing is basically a hobby that I started doing when I was about 10 years old. My mother taught me and I continued to learn by taking Home Economics every grade from 7th - 12th.
Then life happened. I started college, had a baby, got married and forgot all about sewing. I told my husband about my love of sewing and he bought me my first ever sewing machine and serger. I used to sew on my mom's machine and I never used a serger. I didn't even know what that was. When we bought our house, I pulled out the machines and made all the curtains in our new home. Then the machines went back in the box. In the meantime, hubby bought me a sewing table to go in a spare bedroom designated as my sewing space. We painted the walls pink and added a pretty border. However, I rarely went in the room.
I finished college. Started teaching. Started a graduate program to get licensed. Finished grad school and started an Education Specialist Degree program (Ed.S.). Suffered through infidelity. Survived it. Started a marriage ministry. Quit teaching. Went back to school for counseling. Finished another master's program in counseling. Did an internship. Wrote a few books. And finally got back to sewing. Sort of.
By this time, my son had taken over my room, slowly. He started moving his music studio in the room. So we shared the room. Sort of. I didn't like that I had to put up everything because he might be recording the next day. So I didn't really sew much. I did shop a lot, though. I bought patterns every time they went on sale. I bought fabric every time I found a good deal. When Hancock Fabrics went out of business, I bought all the fabric I could. I started reading books about sewing and watching tutorials to learn more about the craft I loved. I found a whole new community of sewers on social media. Just when I thought sewing was dead. I didn't think anyone sewed anymore but I found there were a bunch of people sewing and blogging about it. I was inspired to really get back to sewing. I got a new sewing machine and serger. My son moved out of my room; however, I still have to get some of his stuff out that he left behind.
I enjoy sewing, but I'm a selfish sewer. I rarely sew for others and by others I mean my son and mom. I do plan on making my husband something one day.
Now that I'm sewing regularly, I thought maybe I'll blog about it also. I already had a marriage website and blog so I'm not new to blogging. Even though I post my makes on patternreview.com, sometimes it's nice to know the story behind a project.
I hope you enjoy this journey with me. And if you're married, visit the marriage website and blog.
